Man City are a worse team with Erling Haaland in it and it's 'becoming an issue' - pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Erling Haaland is potentially becoming “an issue” for Man City manager Pep Guardiola.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the Premier League holders are a better team when Haaland, 22, is not in the side.

Haaland scored in a 4-2 win over Tottenham on Thursday (19 January).

The Norway international had failed to score in his previous three outings for the Cityzens.

Pep Guardiola’s side lost two of those games, a 2-0 loss to Southampton and a 2-1 loss to Man United.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Haaland’s form, Robinson said: “They have to find a way of scoring goals frequently.

“When they played Chelsea in the cup they were scoring at ease. I know they scored four last night but at times recently it looks like they are struggling to score when Haaland is in the team.

“It was interesting to see Guardiola speak before the Man United game about these different ideas he had. I saw nothing different in that game.

“Haaland was nullified in that game. He scored against Tottenham but he was by large quiet in that game as well.

“I am starting to wonder whether playing with Haaland is becoming an issue. I think they play in a different way when he is in the side. They won the league with goals coming from all over the pitch last year. At times this season they have struggled to find a way through.”
