Tottenham backed to sign wing-back and centre-half as deal agreed - expert

Paul Robinson is thrilled Tottenham are set to miss out on Brighton forward Leandro Trossard to Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Antonio Conte’s side are not in need of another forward and need to prioritise their defence.

Tottenham were interested in signing Brighton winger Leandro Trossard this month.

However, sources have told Football Insider (19 January) that Arsenal have agreed a fee with Brighton for the transfer of the Belgium international.

The Premier League leaders have agreed a £20million deal for Trossard with another £7million in add-ons.

Robinson claimed Spurs should sign a centre-half and a wing-back instead of Trossard.

“Trossard is a very good player but I do not see where he fits in at Spurs,” he told Football Insider.

“Would I play him ahead of Son [Heung-min], [Dejan] Kulusevski, [Harry] Kane or Richarlison? No.

“I don’t mind the fact that Arsenal are signing him. Spurs are well stocked in the forward positions even Bryan Gil has been playing well of late.

“I would much rather that money be invested in another area of the team. As much as Trossard is a top-quality player, Spurs need a wing-back and a centre-half.

“He will be an asset for Arsenal but I do not think he would have improved Spurs when you look at the players they have got.

“It is about making an assessment on your funds and your squad and making an informed decision off the back of it. I think the money will be spent better elsewhere.”
