Tottenham star Romero could be in hot water as controversial footage re-analysed - expert

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has been “treading a fine line” in recent games with some of his tackles.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one “likes the aggression” the 24-year-old brings to Antonio Conte’s side.

Romero was booked 35 minutes into Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday (15 January).

The Argentina international was then lucky to escape a second yellow for a late challenge on Granit Xhaka in the second half.

Romero has been sent off four times during his career in club football.

Spurs travel to Man City on Thursday night with both sides looking to overturn defeats.

When asked by Football Insider if Romero’s aggression was becoming a problem for Tottenham, Robinson said: “Not for me.

“I like the aggression he brings.

“There is not many leaders in that team but he is one of them. He brings a lot to that team and his aggression is part of that. I would actually like a few of the players in that team to learn from him. He hates losing. He is a real competitor.

“Yes, he treads a fine line at times and he did again on Saturday but you don’t want to take that out of his game.

“I certainly wouldn’t want the manager to try and take that out of his game. I think you gain more from it on balance.”
