Everton news: Pundit issues emphatic verdict on Wayne Rooney replacing Lampard after source's update

Paul Robinson has claimed Everton should not consider Wayne Rooney as a potential replacement for Frank Lampard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said his ex-England teammate would get no more out of the current players at Goodison Park than Lampard.

The Toffees are in a perilous position after losing to Southampton on Saturday (14 January).

The Merseyside club have only won three games this season – less than any other Premier League side.

Sources told Football Insider on 5 January that Lampard is on the brink of being sacked by the board.

Sean Dyche and Wayne Rooney are two of the bookmakers favourites to succeed the Englishman.

When asked by Football Insider if Rooney could turn the club’s fortunes around, Robinson said: “I do not think that would be the right appointment.

“It is too early in Rooney’s managerial career for him to go in and turn them around. He hasn’t got enough experience.

“All you would be doing is swapping like for like. I’m not sure he’d get much more out of those players than Frank.

“However, I do think Dyche would get more out of that team because of his man-management skills. He has also been in this position on numerous occasions with Burnley and kept them up. If Dyche comes in tomorrow Everton stay up. I’m sure of it.”
