Bryan Gil expected to be axed after Tottenham source's update - expert

Paul Robinson expects Dejan Kulusevski to replace Bryan Gil in the starting lineup when Tottenham face Arsenal on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Kulusevski’s return is “huge” for Antonio Conte’s side.

Kulusevski has not played for Spurs in 2023 because of injury.

Sources told Football Insider on 11 January that the Sweden international is on course to make his much anticipated return in the North London derby.

Kulusevski is understood to be recovering well and is now in contention to start the home clash against Mikel Arteta’s side.

When asked by Football Insider if Kulusevski should start the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Robinson said: “Gil has been very good in the last couple of games.

“I have to say I have been impressed. He is definitely in the manager’s thoughts.

“But, Kulusevski’s return is huge. To be back in contention ahead of the Arsenal game… It is perfect timing because that is going to be a real test.

“If he is fit enough, he has to come straight back into the side. That will have to be at the expense of Gil which is a shame but that’s just the way it is sometimes.

“Gil has to be ready to make an impact off the bench if that is the case because I doubt Kulusevski will have 90 minutes in him.”
