Man City news: Pundit issues 'unbelievable' Phil Foden claim after £177m reveal

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Phil Foden after the Man City winger was valued at £177million.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said questions over the 22-year-old’s game time this season are “tiresome.”

Foden played the full 90 minutes of City’s 2-0 loss to Southampton in the League Cup on Wednesday (11 January).

According to CIES Football Observatory (5 January), the England international is the second most valuable player in the world.

Only Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is said to be worth more than the City star.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Foden’s form and development, Robinson said: “The talk about his game time is tiresome.

“Man City have so many great players. You cannot read too much into the rotation of the wide players. They have such a strong squad. It allows them to rotate every week. If [Jack] Grealish doesn’t play one week we talk about him, the next week it is Foden.

“I do not think there is a conversation to be had about Foden. He has been unbelievable for City. I think people forget how young he is. There is not many young players in the world who are better than him.

“His lack of game time in the Premier League is down to the fact that they so many quality players in their stable. It would be unfair to say he is not fulfilling his potential. He is one of the best young players in the Premier League.”
