Robinson can't believe Erling Haaland claim as Man City news emerges - 'in all honesty...'

Paul Robinson has rubbished the idea of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland starting up front together for Man City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Pep Guardiola would not play a formation that allows for both to play as striker.

Alvarez scored and impressed in City’s win over Chelsea in the FA Cup on 8 January.

Speaking to club media (1 January), Guardiola said Haaland and Alvarez would be able to play together as twin strikers to help unlock stubborn defences.

Robinson does not believe that Guardiola will actual start the two players together.

“I cannot see it,” he told Football Insider.

“I think that is Pep Guardiola paying lip service to the press in all honesty.

“City have a squad of players who know they are going to be rotated. They are not going to play week in, week out.

“There is no way in the world we will see City turn out in a 4-4-2 that would allow Alvarez to play alongside Haaland.

“I think Alvarez will play in certain games. Most likely games against lesser teams in the league and games in the FA Cup and the League Cup.

“But, it is very unlikely that we will see Haaland and Alvarez start up front together in a 4-4-2. It is not happening. It’s a shame though because Alvarez is good enough to start for anyone.”
