Robinson issues 'big' Cody Gakpo claim after Liverpool footage emerges

Paul Robinson expects “big things” from Cody Gakpo at Liverpool after “a promising” debut against Wolves.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 23-year-old was linking up well with new teammates Darwin Nunez and Andy Robertson on Saturday (7 January).

As shown on Twitter (8 January), Gakpo caught the eye on his debut against Wolves in the FA Cup.

The Netherlands international moved to Anfield from PSV Eindhoven in a £45million deal on 1 January.

Jurgen Klopp has welcomed Gakpo’s arrival amid long-term injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Gakpo’s debut in the FA Cup, Robinson said: “It was a promising debut from him.

“I expect big things from him. He is a player that I have followed for a while. I like him.

“He will fit into that Liverpool system well. The way that he linked up with Nunez and Robertson bodes well for the future.

“I do not think it is a case of, ‘Look at our new signing.’ It is going to be a work in progress. He needs to be given time. He is not the finished article but there was definitely promising signs.

“It will be interesting to see if he starts again at the weekend against Brighton because that is a tough game. I expect him to start.”
