Paul Robinson Exclusive: Spurs must sign Aston Villa man 'Outstanding' in air & with feet

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to make a move for Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England goalkeeper claimed the newly-capped England international would be the perfect replacement for Jan Vertonghen or Toby Alderweireld.

Robinson explained how Mings has the all-round game that can rejuvenate Tottenham’s struggling backline.

Asked by Football Insider which centre-back Spurs should target, Robinson said: “I like Tyrone Mings at Aston Villa, I think he’s been outstanding. I think the way he’s been given his England debut this week is no coincidence to his performances.

“I watched him a lot for Aston Villa last year in the Championship and for whatever reason, it didn’t happen at Bournemouth but he seems to have found a home at Villa.

“I think his ability in the air is outstanding, his distribution with his feet, and the fact for me that he’s a left-footed centre half.

“It was always difficult as a goalkeeper when you play with two centre-halves who were right-footed, neither one really seemed comfortable on the left-hand side of the two but he gives you that option as well.”

Mings has transformed the Villa defence since signing from Bournemouth on a loan in January that was converted into a permanent deal in the summer.

He has started all eight of the Midlands giants’ Premier League matches this season.
