Kieran Maguire makes 'sensational Man United claim after record-breaking £136m reveal

The Glazers need to invest in Old Trafford after Man United received a record-breaking £136million in matchday revenue in 2022/23.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the stadium is ‘not fit for purpose’ in the 21st century.

The Red Devils announced their financial results for 2022/23 last week, revealing that the club made £136million from matchday revenue – £26million more than the 2021/22 season.

Erik ten Hag’s side did play seven more matches than the season prior, but United will have also benefitted from a rise in ticket prices at Old Trafford.

Despite the record-breaking matchday revenue figures, the Glazers have refused to invest in the club’s 74,310-capacity stadium.

As reported by the Daily Mail, United fans were left soaked last month during their Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace as one of the roofs above the stadium was leaking.

While Maguire believes the matchday figures at United are ‘sensational’, he believes the Glazers have to address the issues at Old Trafford.

The figures are sensational,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

After plateauing for around about a decade, this is a significant increase as far as matchday revenue is concerned.

“It was helped by the club having seven more home games than the previous season.

It’s also indicative of Manchester United focusing more and more on tourist fans as opposed to season ticket holders.

I think season ticket prices went up slightly and they are focusing on hospitality and tourist fans and are clearly benefiting on the back of that.

So the sky is the limit as far as Manchester United’s match-day revenue is concerned.

However, to fulfil that potential they need to address their 20th Century stadium in 2023.

It’s not fit for purpose as many proper fans will testify.
