Revealed: Aston Villa to land £20m windfall after key development

Aston Villa could earn around £20million from their Europa Conference League campaign in 2023/24, Football Insider can reveal.

Unai Emery’s side confirmed their return to Europe after securing a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Brighton on the final day.

Villa are now set to compete in Europe for the first time since the 2010/11 season when they qualified for the Europa League.

The Birmingham-based club have already guaranteed themselves £2.6million by qualifying for the tournament.

Uefa also distributes around £81million in performance-based bonuses, with £430,000 handed out per win in the group stage, while qualification to the knockout stages is worth an extra £550,000.

A further £7.8million is up for grabs for the team that goes on to win the competition, meaning Villa have the chance to inflate their earnings by putting together a deep run in the tournament.

Uefa’s market pool for the Europa Conference League sits at around £20million and is shared out according to the proportional value of each TV market.

With Villa the only Premier League side set to compete in the tournament in 2023/24, they can expect to earn around £2million in market pool payments.

Teams are also awarded financial bonuses based on their performance in Europe over the last 10 years, but Villa’s absence from European competition in the last decade means they are set to miss out.

They will accrue coefficient points for the first time in 2023/24 and emerge on Uefa’s 10-year standings, but will only pocket around £50,000 for their participation next season.

A deep run in Europe will also allow Villa to enhance their matchday revenue next season.

They currently earn around £1million per matchday at Villa Park from Premier League games, and they will expect to fill their 42,640-capacity stadium for European nights.

The total amount earned from matchday revenue will depend on how far Villa go in the tournament, but conservative estimates would see Villa pocket around £5million from additional home matches.

Overall, Villa can expect a financial boost of around £20million if they enjoy a deep run in Europe on their return to playing continental football.
