Revealed: Liverpool well placed to land £60m windfall amid key development today

Liverpool could earn as much as £60million if they go on to win the Europa League next season, Football Insider has learned.

The Merseyside club are set to miss out on Champions League qualification this season with Jurgen Klopp’s side fifth in the table with one game remaining.

Unless Man United lose both of their remaining Premier League matches, including Thursday’s clash against Chelsea, Liverpool will return to the Europa League for the first time since the 2015-16 season when they finished runners-up to Sevilla.

While missing out on the Champions League would be a hammer blow to Liverpool’s aspirations, they can still make a large profit if they go on to win its sister competition in 2024.

As per Uefa’s financial distribution documents, qualification for the Europa League group stage is worth £3.1million for all participants.

Liverpool would also earn an extra £4.3million if they win all of their six group stage games, with Uefa awarding £550,000 per win and a lump sum of £1million for topping the group.

A further £13million in prize earnings is available for the club that goes on to win the competition, while qualification to the Uefa Super Cup is also worth around £3million to the tournament champions.

Liverpool’s success in Europe over the last decade will also boost their profits, with the Premier League giants ranking ninth on Uefa’s 10-year coefficient table.

Liverpool will earn a guaranteed £4million in coefficient payments if they are the highest-ranked team in the tournament.

Football Insider’s analysis also expects Liverpool to earn around £17million from Uefa’s market pool payments if they go on to win the competition.

Market pool payments are based on Uefa’s broadcast and commercial deals divided between clubs based on how much their country contributes.

Finally, a lengthy run in the Europa League would boost Liverpool’s matchday revenue significantly.

Following the expansion to Anfield, Liverpool expect to earn around £2.5million per home match, and a run to the final would see the Reds host six European matches at Anfield, earning the club £15million.

Overall, Europa League success in 2023/24 would pocket Liverpool a lump sum of around £55-£60million.
