Celtic can go unbeaten again this season but multiple stars will be leaving in January as they club continue to evolve and strengthen.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie claimed it gets “harder every year” to go invincible.

Brendan Rodgers’ side remain the only unbeaten team in the Scottish Premiership after 11 games, winning nine and drawing two.

Celtic went unbeaten domestically for the second time in their history in 2016/17 in Brendan Rodgers’ debut season, the first coming 119 years earlier in 1897/98.

McAvennie claimed it would be “tremendous” and possible for Celtic to go invincible for the third time, but feared that Rodgers’s squad may not have the quality to maintain it for the entire campaign.

“I think [they can go unbeaten]. Brendan did it before,” he told Football Insider.

“He likes to have his defence sorted, he likes the structure in his defence and they’ve got a way they do things. I would love to see him not get beat domestically.

“It would be tremendous if Brendan went invincible again, but it’s getting harder every year. Brendan came out after the [St Mirren] game and said there’s going to be a lot more players leaving than coming in.

“He’s got a big squad and he’s going to want to bring in quality. We don’t need quantity, we need quality. This means to me that we’re replacing players who are not on the same level, and that’s not good when you’re challenging on every front.

“It’ll be interesting.”
