Rashford cited as Man United plan to sack Ten Hag and replace him with rival after source's reveal
Man United fans will have “a lot of questions” for unde rpressure manager Erik ten Hag.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Tottenham defender Alan Hutton claimed the Dutchman has bought himself some time after a good campaign last season.
As revealed by Football Insider (3 November) Sir Jim Ratcliffe plans on sacking ten Hag and replacing him with Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi after his deal to buy 25 per cent of the club is complete.
The Red Devils’ form has once again fallen after back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle and sit eighth in the Premier League table – eight points away from the Champions League places.
Hutton admitted that Ten Hag has plenty of problems outside of his control but noted that Man United managers don’t get a lot of time to turn things around.
“Questions will be asked now,” he told Football Insider.
“I don’t think we can just cover it up. It’s one of the biggest football teams in world football so the spotlight is on him.
“I understand there are a lot of issues. Harry Maguire, Anthony, Jadon Sancho, all these sorts of things. He’s brought in Rasmus Hojlund, who I think will be an outstanding football player, but he’s very young.
“Rashford – they’re trying to get the best out of him. The blend in midfield is not quite there, so he’s had to deal with a lot.
“That being said, at Manchester United, I don’t think you get the time so it’s a difficult one. He came in and turned things around, they had a decent season last year.
“Obviously winning a trophy, so that’s probably bought him a little bit of time but they’ve spent a lot of money.
“So for me, there will be a lot of fans asking a lot of questions now.”
