McAvennie worried for Scott Bain after Celtic latest

Scott Bain is not good enough to fill in for Joe Hart at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie is worried about Bain between the sticks for Saturday’s (30 September) trip to Motherwell.

Hart was sent off last weekend against Livingston with James Forrest sacrificed in favour of bringing on Bain for the remaining 60 minutes of the match.

Despite some nervy moments, Bain managed to preserve the side’s clean sheet in the 3-0 win.

Bain has been at Parkhead since 2018 but has fallen to second choice following Hart’s arrival in 2021.

Celtic also signed Benjamin Siegrist from Dundee United last summer but the 31-year-old has struggled with injuries and has only made two appearances for the Scottish champions.

McAvennie is worried about the prospect of Bain between the sticks once again.

I am not ecstatic that he has got Bain as his right hand man,” he told Football Insider.

He came in last week and he was nearly caught. He was just in and trying to make a name for himself, there were times where he just needed to get rid of the ball.

It did not materialise into a goal so he got away with it but I do not think we have got a good backup goalkeeper.

Celtic face Motherwell on Saturday in the next round of the Scottish Premiership before welcoming Lazio on Wednesday (4 October) in their next Champions League clash.
