Patrick Bamford told to 'hang up his boots' after Leeds United latest - pundit

Patrick Bamford’s disastrous injury record will put off any club interested in signing him from Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie suggested that if Bamford is fit enough to continue playing he should look at a move to America or Saudi Arabia, if not he may have to retire.

The 30-year-old is yet to feature for the Whites this season after picking up a hamstring injury in the final days of pre-season and has been sidelined since.

As quoted by LeedsLive (28 September), Farke comfirmed that Bamford is nearing a return to action and said this week of training has been “massively beneficial” as part of his recovery.

The striker’s current contract at Elland Road runs until 2026 after he joined from Middlesbrough in 2018.

But McAvennie suggested Bamford may struggle to move on from the Yorkshire club even if he wanted to.

I do not know where he will go,” he told Football Insider.

I do not know who would take him because he is always injured and he has got that record now of being injured all the time.

When you need him you have not got him and that is not the kind of player that people want to spend money on. It is a shame for him because he is a good player.

He might have to hang his boots up but if he is not fit enough but if he wants to keep playing he could go to Saudi or America where it would be a bit easier.
