'Speaking to people...' Exclusive: McAvennie shares big West Ham injury update
Frank McAvennie has revealed that Robert Snodgrass may be able to return sooner than expected from injury for West Ham.
The former Hammers and Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that even if the 32-year-old was 80 per cent fit he would return for David Moyes’s squad.
Snodgrass has missed the first two games of the Premier League restart with back problem and there were fears he would be unavailable for the remainder of the season.
The midfielder has scored five and assisted as many in his 24 appearances this campaign.
McAvennie was confident that the Scotland international would return in the next month.
“Snodgrass would be in if he was fit tonight because he is a fighter,” he told Football Insider.
“I am hoping, reading between the lines and speaking to a couple of people, that he will be back quite soon.
“He is the type of player that will play through the pain. If he is 80 per cent fit he will want to play.
“In my day if you got a knock you would just run it off. In today’s game it’s different and it is not the player’s fault. You have got so many people telling you whether you are in the green zone and using all of this technology.
“A lot of players would listen to that but Snodgrass is not one, that is for sure.”
Last week Moyes issued an update on Snodgrass: “We’re a bit worried that Robert Snodgrass might be out for a while.
“He’s got what looks like a disc problem in his back.”
