'There's no way Kane would have let Mourinho' - Exclusive: McAvennie makes big Spurs claim

Frank McAvennie has lauded Harry Kane for his display for Tottenham last night and insisted “there is no way” the striker would have let Jose Mourinho bench him against West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former West Ham and Celtic forward claimed the 26-year-old would have been “licking his lips” at the prospect of playing against David Moyes’s side.

Spurs beat their London rivals 2-0 – an own goal from Tomas Soucek just after the hour mark sparked controversy when it appeared to hit Davinson Sanchez’s arm in the build-up but VAR did not disallow the goal.

Kane put the game in the 82nd minute to score his 18th of the season and silence the critics.

McAvennie believed the England captain looked sharper after a frustrating evening against Manchester United on Friday.

“It is great for him to get the goal,” he told Football Insider.

“I like the way he goes about his business. He’s not afraid to drop off get the ball and play with people and he is always in the box when the ball comes in.

“For England and Tottenham it is great to see him back.

“He was on the fringes against Man United but you could see his sharpness last night.

“Mourinho has unbelievable faith in him. There was talk of him not playing last night but the best way a striker can get fit is by playing games. That is the only way to do it.

“He must have been licking his lips before the game and there is no way he would have let Mourinho leave him out because he will have fancied scoring against them!”

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that Bielsa has spoken to Pochettino about potential signing.
