Pundit urges forgotten Celtic summer signing to depart in January - 'Just not worked out'

Marco Tilio must exit Celtic this January after being frozen out of Brenden Rodgers’ side.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton admitted he’d earmarked the Australian ahead of the season but urged a move if he can’t break into the team.

The 22-year-old switched Melbourne City for the Hoops this summer for a reported £1.5milllion and signed before fellow countryman Ange Postecoglou’s move to Tottenham.

An early-season injury halted his progression but Tilio, who is reportedly open to a loan this winter, featured for Australia’s under-23s during the international break.

Hutton suggested a loan would be ideal so he can hopefully show Celtic what he’s made of.

“He only signed in the summer,” he told Football Insider.

“I didn’t know about him before he signed, but he looks an interesting and exciting player.

“He’s not been given the game time, so if he can’t get minutes he’s going to have to move on.

“A loan is probably better so he can go out and show his qualities to Celtic, then hopefully come back and kick on.

“He was one that I earmarked to watch at the start of the season because I think he can give Celtic something a little bit different.

“Unfortunately it’s just not worked out that way.”
