'If anyone thinks Dier will work in a high line...' - Tottenham fans react to crushing Van de Ven update

Tottenham fans have dropped their verdict on which players should come in to replace the swathe of absentees following their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Cristian Romero saw a straight red after a VAR check for a challenge on Enzo Fernandez and a double booking for Destiny Udogie gave him his marching orders.

The Argentine will face a three-game ban while Ange Postecoglou will be without the Italian for one game, but most worryingly to most Spurs fans will be Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury.

Speaking post-match, manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed the Dutchman’s injury is “significant” but could not yet reveal how long he would be out.

Furthermore, Football Insider understands the defender still could not walk after the match and had to be assisted through the ‘mixed zone’ by Tottenham’s medical staff.

That is a devastating blow for Spurs going into the winter months.

Meanwhile, James Maddison also got a knock and is in doubt for the upcoming Wolves fixture.

With their unbeaten start to the season over and their place at the summit of the table lost, Spurs fans have taken to social media to try and solve their squad problems.

This fan claimed the situation is “not looking great” and only Eric Dier and Ben Davies are available to fill in.

This supporter was more optimistic and tipped Dier to replace the Dutchman and Giovanni Lo Celso to come in if Maddison is unavailable.

Some fans called for a debut for 18-year-old Ashley Phillips after the centre-back’s summer move from Blackburn Rovers.

This fan predicted van de Ven to be out for four months and eyed Davies for a long run in the starting XI while Emerson can replace Udogie at Molineux.

This fan admitted his picks were “significantly weaker” than the absent players but had faith in Postecoglou.

This fan does not trust Dier to play in this system and picked Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to stay in the line-up after he replaced van den Ven.
