'Best goalkeeping performance in history' - Tottenham fans stunned by Guglielmo Vicario display in 4-1 defeat to Chelsea

Tottenham fans were in awe of Guglielmo Vicario’s “masterclass” performance against Chelsea on Monday night (6 November).

Nine-man Spurs suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season in the 4-1 loss after getting an early lead through Dejan Kulusevski.

Red cards for Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie saw Ange Postecoglou’s side struggle in the closing stages of the clash but a fantastic sweeper-keeper display from the Italian saved Spurs from a true battering.

Per SofaScore, he made three saves, six successful runs out and five clearances, but Tottenham’s lack of bodies saw Nicolas Jackson bag a hattrick in the final 15 minutes.

Despite the defeat, Vicario’s performance has been touted as an all-timer and Tottenham fans have taken to social media to praise the summer signing.

One fan feels he is in line to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma as Italy’s number one after his display on Monday night.

This fan simply praised the 27-year-old as being a “different breed”.

One fan was shocked that Vicario’s sweeper-keeper antics didn’t get him sent off.

This fan claimed his performance before Jackson’s first goal was unachievable by goalkeeping greats Iker Casillas and Gianluigi Buffon.

This supporter claimed Vicario’s sweeper-keeping was a gamble, but he was close to pulling it off.

This supporter held Vicario in very high esteem and compared his display to Manuel Neuer’s historic World Cup performance against Algeria.

Another fan claimed Vicario may have pulled off one of the best goalkeeper performances the sport has ever seen.

One fan was amazed by Vicario’s excellence as a sweeper and gave him a lot of credit for the way Tottenham play.
