'Really let the club down', 'Not seeing an apology' - Tottenham fans slate Cristian Romero after 4-1 defeat to Chelsea

Tottenham fans ripped into Cristian Romero for his recklessness as their team’s unbeaten Premier League season came to an end in an extraordinary 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night.

A remarkable match brought five goals, a further five which were disallowed, two red cards, and a slew of VAR decisions in one of the Premier League’s most frenetic-ever encounters.

The first player to be given his marching orders was Romero, who was handed a straight red after 33 minutes for his crude lunge on fellow Argentine Enzo Fernandez, which resulted in a penalty and an equaliser for Chelsea scored by Cole Palmer.

It was the fourth red card in 74 Premier League matches for the Spurs star, more than any other current player, and was further evidence of his ill discipline.

Spurs were remarkably reduced to nine players shortly after half-time when Destiny Udogie was sent off for a wild two-footed tackle.

Despite their two-man disadvantage, Ange Postecoglou’s men continued to play with a high line and give Chelsea a run for their money, and the visitors only sealed the win with two Nicolas Jackson goals in added time.

The defeat leaves Spurs second in the league table, a point behind leaders Man City following their first defeat in 11 matches in the competition this season.

Many supporters are pointing the finger at Romero for so blatantly handicapping his team.
