'I just smashed my TV' - Fans rage at Jamie Carragher's instant reaction to new Liverpool VAR controversy after Mac Allister handball

Fans of Liverpool and other clubs reacted in their droves after club legend and pundit Jamie Carragher called on VAR to be abolished following the Alexis Mac Allister handball controversy.

Liverpool supporters and manager Jurgen Klopp were stunned as VAR denied their team an equaliser deep into added time in their 3-2 Europa League defeat to Toulouse on Thursday night.

Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov ruled out Jarell Quansah’s 97th-minute ‘goal’ having decided that Mac Allister’s handball 13 seconds before the strike was during the same phase of play.

However, it took three minutes between Quansah celebrating what would have been his first goal for the club and it being disallowed, and at one stage Kabakov pointed to the centre circle to indicate a goal before being summoned by the VAR to the TV monitor on the touchline.

Klopp went up to the officials at full-time in an attempt to demand answers but held back in his public criticism after the final whistle, suggesting he was  preoccupied with a poor Liverpool performance rather than the controversial decision that denied his team a share of the points.

Carragher was more forthright, insisting the “game has gone” and it is now time to “get rid of VAR” after a “disgraceful” decision.

His instant reaction got responses from not only Anfield worshippers, but also fans of other clubs, including Arsenal followers in the wake of Carragher’s TV comments about the Newcastle controversy last Satuday.
