Sources: Fabio Paratici still 'pulling all the strings' at Tottenham - Levy loves him
Former Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici remains heavily involved at the club despite resigning in April, sources have told Football Insider.
The Italian stepped back following a worldwide 30-month ban from football after he was convicted by the Italian FA of financial malpractice.
But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Paratici is still “pulling all the strings” in the Spurs recruitment department while working for the club in a consultancy role.
It is believed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy appreciates the 51-year-old’s connections and feels his recruitment record has been “outstanding” over the past 24 months.
He has earned the trust of Levy with a series of high-profile signings which have now come to fruition for current manager Ange Postecoglou.
In addition, Paratici has been spotted in the director’s box at many of Spurs’ fixtures so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
Paratici was instrumental in the signings of several of Spurs’ top performers during his time in an official capacity at the club – with Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur among those to join under his watch.
Breakout star Destiny Udogie has also recently linked up with Tottenham after being loaned back to Udinese following his initial signing last year (2022).
Spurs’ recruitment in the most recent summer window has also been roundly praised, with the likes of James Maddison, Gugliemo Vicario and Micky van de Ven among the standout deals.
Paratici’s fingerprints were most obviously over the Vicario deal, with the player joining from Italy, a market the recruitment specialist knows so well.
Those successes are a stark contrast to the state of play before Paratici’s appointment – with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso among the highest-profile failures in recent years.
Postecoglou’s side sit second in the Premier League despite Monday’s (6 November) 4-1 home loss against Chelsea.
They are next in action against Wolves on Saturday (11 November).
