McAvennie predicts Newcastle United v Chelsea - 'I've got a little feeling'

Newcastle United will turn over Chelsea when they face off in their first Premier League game after the international break.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie feels the Blues are not quite “off the mark”.

The Magpies suffered a gruelling injury crisis before the two-week break with the likes of Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron sidelined – a major factor in their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Chelsea’s early-season woes have begun to even out after their emphatic displays against Tottenham and Man City, but they remain in 10th place.

McAvennie can’t foresee Mauricio Pochettino’s side extending their two-game unbeaten run after Newcastle’s needed rest despite Eddie Howe’s side still having nine first-team absentees.

“Chelsea aren’t off the mark yet,” he told Football Insider.

“I think after the international break, Chelsea will be up for it and would have been working hard.

“Pochettino is a good manager, Howe is a good manager, so it will be interesting.

“Raheem Sterling is coming back into form, but I just think at St James’ Park, I think Newcastle will beat them.

“I’ve got a little feeling that they’ll turn them over. Then they might lose the following week but that’s the way Newcastle are at the moment.

“They’ve not had a game in a couple of weeks so they’ll be bang up for it.”
