Sources: Mackenzie arrives at Tottenham next week after deal agreed

Rob Mackenzie will begin work as the new head of recruitment at Tottenham next week after agreeing to join from Aston Villa, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider first revealed that Mackenzie was set to join Spurs from their Premier League rivals last week (30 October).

Now, a full agreement has been struck after the transfer expert handed in his notice at Aston Villa.

Mackenzie will link up with Tottenham once again, having previously spent 18 months at the club from 2015 to 2016 under talent-spotter Paul Mitchell.

He will reunite with new Spurs technical director Johan Lange, who started work with the Lilywhites this week after joining from Villa.

Mackenzie has previously held senior recruitment roles at Derby County and Belgian club OH Leuven.

He was part of the Leicester City scouting team which spotted talents like Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kante and Jamie Vardy – who eventually comprised the spine of their Premier League title-winning side.

Lange, who has brought Mackenzie to Tottenham, has been given responsibility for recruitment, analytics and talent identification across the club’s senior and academy teams.

The Dane had been squeezed out at Aston Villa after Monchi took over as the club’s president of football operations in the summer, a move which effectively put the Spaniard in charge of first-team recruitment.

Spurs currently sit top of the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou – who was appointed as Antonio Conte’s permanent successor in the off-season.

The Lilywhites are yet to be defeated in the top flight this term despite losing talisman Harry Kane in the summer window.

They are next in action against Chelsea on Monday (6 November).
