Sources: Major update on Liverpool bid to sign Doucoure

Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure remains at the top of the shortlist at Liverpool with less than a week left of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are keen to bring him to Anfield despite his £70million valuation.

Liverpool have already failed with moves for long-term targets Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this summer – with both players joining Chelsea after a drawn-out transfer saga.

Those failures leave them needing midfield reinforcements before the 1 September deadline – with Stuttgart and Japan midfielder Wataru Endo already joining earlier this month.

Doucoure signed for Crystal Palace from Lens just last summer (2022) for a reported fee of £21million.

He has started the season at the heart of the Palace midfield – but is believed to be keen on a potential move to Anfield.

The Mali international made 35 appearances across all competitions last season, notching three assists.

Doucoure made a big impact in those outings and beat the likes of Marc Guehi and Michael Olise to win Palace’s Player of the Season award for the 2022-23 campaign.

The defensive midfielder earns a reported wage of £60,000-a-week on a contract which runs until June 2027.

Liverpool have started the new season by picking up four points from two games in the Premier League.

The Reds face Newcastle on Sunday (27 August) in their last game before the transfer deadline.

Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are among the midfielders to leave the club this summer.

In other news, Liverpool could now sign Brazil international in January after bid rejected.
