Hutton suggests the real reason Robbie Ure quit Rangers after rejecting offer

Robbie Ure saw no way into the Rangers first team before his summer move to Anderlecht.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton claimed that he “totally” understands why the 19-year-old rejected a new deal to stay at Ibrox.

Ure moved to the Alderlect’s youth set-up on a one-year deal and has scored in four consecutive games in the Belgian second division.

The centre-forward made just three senior outings for the Gers, all from the bench, but scored 21 goals in 41 appearances for the Rangers B team.

Hutton admitted it is a shame that young Scottish players are opting to leave in search of game time, but believed Ure has “something” about him.

“I think time will tell [if Rangers regret not keeping him],” he told Football Insider.

“He was involved in the Rangers team so they obviously could see that he had something but the problem with him was they were always going to buy somebody.

“I can tell you this, I do feel for him as a young boy coming through because Rangers and Celtic must win and they give no time, as seen with Michael Beale losing his job.

“Ure didn’t see a pathway into the first team this season, therefore he’s taken the decision to go abroad.

“We’ve seen other youngsters do this and flourish, so it’s a good move for certain people.

“I definitely thought there was something there. If he did go out on loan, there was a possibility of coming back and trying to get into the first team.

“It’s a shame we’re seeing these young talented Scots leave but I totally understand why he did it.”
