Pundit drops 'incredible' Darwin Nunez claim after 'stunning' Liverpool development

Darwin Nunez can get “at least” 20 goals for Liverpool this season if he continues his excellent form.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton praised the Ururaguaian after his initial struggles at Anfield.

Nunez has seven goals and five assists in all competitions this season, including an incredible winner against Bournemouth on Wednesday (1 November) in the League Cup.

The 24-year-old has not been a regular for the Reds this season, amassing just 675 minutes in all competitions.

Hutton cited the Reds’ new-look midfield as a key reason for Nunez’s improved form but admitted he will need more minutes to reach the 20-goal mark.

“It’s obviously taken him a little bit of time to bed in, but, wow, he is an incredible talent,” he told Football Insider.

“I think we’re now starting to see the best of him. What helps him is that new midfield and that blend that they’ve got in there.

“Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, they’ve really combined well in there. I always think strikers at top teams are always looking at 20 [goals a season], at least.

“I was never a striker but what would I be thinking? You’d want to hit 20 at least.

“And I think if you do that with some of the talent that’s round about them, then you’ll be there and there about.

“He’ll probably never tell you as a striker, because then you’re showing you’re benchmark, so if you don’t reach it it’s not been the best of seasons.

“But for me, it has to be around that mark. I’m sure if he gets the minutes and keeps continuing how he is, like that stunning goal against Bournemouth, then he will reach around about that number.”

In other news, Liverpool fans were blown away by what they’ve seen from the “simply undroppable” Darwin Nunez.
