Celtic news: Hutton 'feels sorry' for Cameron Carter-Vickers as footage re-analysed

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was wrong to bring on Cameron Carter-Vickers against Lazio.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said he felt sorry for Carter-Vickers being thrown straight back in to a Champions League game so soon after coming back from injury.

As shown on TNT Sports (5 October), the centre-back was dispossessed in the buildup to the Italian’s winning goal deep into stoppage time.

The 25-year-old was on the bench after returning from a lengthy lay off with injury but replaced Nat Phillips for the final half an hour of the game.

Despite an impressive performance the Hoops fell to the second defeat of their Champions League group stage campaign.

Hutton was sympathetic towards the defender.

I felt sorry for Carter-Vickers in the Lazio game,” he told Football Insider.

I thought he just kind of got thrown in there right at the end and I don’t really know why they had to do that. I do not know if maybe Phillips’ booking was the reason.

But Carter-Vickers being back is a huge plus and the form of Scales as well. I think they are the two moving forward at this moment in time.

It can be difficult when you are at a club and they are bringing in other players in your position, I have been there myself, but he has taken it on and done really well so it just shows you the type of character he is.
