Hutton would 'love' to see Steven Davis back playing for Rangers as surprise details emerge

Steven Davis has been backed to be part of the new manager’s coaching staff at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said that although he would love to see Davis back playing, he does not think he will do so at Ibrox.

As quoted by the Daily Record (7 October), the 38-year-old said he has not given up hopes of playing for the club again.

Davis has been struggling with a knee injury and, despite his contract with the Gers expiring in the summer, was kept on at the club to aid in his rehabilitation.

The midfielder was appointed caretaker boss after Michael Beale was sacked and revealed that that has halted his rehab but hasn’t ruled out a return to playing one day.

When asked if we could see Davis back on the pitch for the Gers, Hutton told Football Insider:I am not sure about him playing.

I would love to see him back, it has been a long lay off, a long recovery and he has had a couple of setbacks here and there.

You have to factor in his age but he has got a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge to pass on so could he be part of the next coaching staff? I would presume that is the direction he wants to go in when he is finished.

It is ultimately down to him and whether he still sees himself playing but if he does I do not think that will be at Rangers.
