Some Rangers stars are not 'fit to wear the shirt' - Hutton

Rangers players need to prove they are fit to wear the shirt after a string of “terrible” performances.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton agreed with fan frustration after recent performances and insisted the current group of players must do better.

After a shocking 2-1 defeat to Aris Limassol in the Europa League last week, the Gers managed to bounce back with a 3-0 win over St Mirren and leap frog them to second spot in the Premiership table.

The supporters made their frustrations known before kick off, in an image shared by the BBC (8 October) fans can be seem unfurling a banner that read “heartless, passionless, not fit to wear our colours”.

Whilst Hutton agreed with the anger from the support, he offered justification for the players’ recent performances.

No player turns up wanting to play badly,” he told Football Insider.

I think first and foremost you need to understand that. It was the same for me personally and I do not know any other player that has turned up to a game not wanting to play their best.

This is not me sticking up for them this is the truth. The Limassol game was terrible, the first half was really poor.

I understand why the fans were frustrated, why they are showing banners and asking questions. It needs to be better and this is maybe them trying to give the team a rocket to spur them on.

They need to show the fans that they want to wear the shirt, that they are proud to play for the club so I do understand the frustration. Some aren’t.
