Celtic profit from major injustice as Luis Palma footage re-analysed - pundit
Luis Palma’s Celtic goal against Kilmarnock should have been disallowed.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton couldn’t understand why Palma’s strike was allowed to stand after seeing the lines drawn by VAR officials.
As shown on Sky Sports (9 October), Palma netted the Hoops’ second goal of the afternoon and although the lines drawn by the VAR team appeared to show Hatate in an offside position the goal stood.
Brendan Rodgers’s side went on to win the game 3-1 and maintain their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
But Hutton suggested Palma’s goal should not have stood.
“It was offside for me,” he told Football Insider.
“When it comes down to lines I think they should get it right. If there is a decision that is subjective it depends on who is looking at it but this was obvious.
“Palma plays it into Hatate who looks to be in an offside position. He is interfering with play and it goes back to Palma.
“It is a great finish but it looked offside that was my initial reaction. I do not know what went wrong but it looked offside.“
Palma is all too familiar with a VAR offside check, his goal against Lazio in the Champions League last week was subject of scrutiny but did not find the same luck that he did at the weekend and the goal was disallowed.
To make matters worse, the winger was booked for taking his top off in celebration and then the Hoops went on to lose the game 2-1.
