Rangers 'papering over the cracks' after Ibrox source's manager reveal - expert

Rangers are “papering over the cracks” as they begin their search for a new manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton insisted that the club should not rush the process of choosing a new manager and has backed Alex Rae and Steven Davis to hold the side together until then.

The Light Blues confirmed (1 October) that Davis, alongside a coaching team of Rae, who has experience in charge of St Mirren as well as several assistant manager roles, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour, and goalkeeping coach Colin Smith.

The team will lead the side following Michael Beale’s sacking whilst they search for a replacement.

On 2 October, Football Insider revealed that the Gers have not given up hope of luring Graham Potter to Ibrox and have made him a top target in their search.

Hutton insisted the club can’t afford to rush the next appointment.

I think it is very difficult because if they do rush just to get someone in, it might not be the right fit and you are just trying to paper over the cracks.

Steven Davis knows what he is doing, he has got Alex Rae there with some experience so I do not think at this moment in time there is any need to appoint somebody next week.

You have to sit back, take stock of all the candidates that you are looking at and see if it is achievable. That being said you do not want to be taking too long, there are some big games around the corner so you want to get the manager in place.
