'Really bad atmosphere' - Rangers expert drops dressing room claim after confirmed news

Michael Beale brought a bad atmosphere into the Rangers dressing room.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton backed Steven Davis to improve the mentality within the group and get the side back to winning ways.

The club legend was announced as Michael Beale’s successor following his sacking on Sunday (1 October).

Davis made 359 appearances for the Gers during his time at the club and won four league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League cups and will be hoping to replicate his success as a manager.

When asked if he’s worried about the Europa League game against Aris Limassol on Thursday after Beale’s sacking, Hutton told Football Insider:It really depends on how the group saw the manager.

When I was a player I had numerous managers and sometimes you get a boost if the atmosphere is really bad under the previous manager, which appears to have been the case under Beale.

Some players maybe start playing with a bit more freedom, can go and express themselves a little bit more. There is no easy game in European football, away from home it is going to be difficult.

If I think Steven Davis can give them a bit of freedom to express themselves and play with no fear then they should have more than enough.

I know there is a lot of injuries but the squad should still be strong enough to go and put on a good performance.”
