'It's not great' - Exclusive: Alan Hutton reacts to 'worrying' Tottenham player claim

Alan Hutton believes Tottenham forward Harry Kane made a worrying claim by stating that Spurs were still making the same mistakes after their 2-2 draw with Olympiacos.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondant Laura O’Leary, the former Spurs right-back agrees with Kane that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are guilty of errors they have been making for years after letting a two-goal lead slip against the Greek side.

Kane vented his frustration after drawing with Olympiacos, insisting that Spurs’ squad were no longer inexperienced and so they shouldn’t be making similar mistakes to the ones they have in recent seasons.

Kane opened the scoring for Tottenham on Wednesday evening by converting from the penalty spot and Lucas Moura doubled Spurs’ lead four minutes later.

However, goals from Daniel Podence and Mathieu Valbuena, the latter scoring the equaliser from another penalty in the second half, meant that the points were shared.

Hutton admitted that it was worrying that Tottenham were making the same mistakes but backed their squad to be good enough to overcome them and progress through the Champions League this season.

“It’s not great, I think they got beat in the first couple (of matches) last year so if you make mistakes you want to improve on those mistakes, you don’t want to make the same mistakes again,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“And this is the problem, you look at the Arsenal game where they went 2-0 up then lost (their lead) it, then this one here, they went up against the run of play as Olympiacos played well in the first 25 minutes, but they went 2-0 up and a team like Tottenham should be able to hold out even away from home.

“It is worrying that they’re making the same mistakes but I think they’ve still got the players in the squad to push forward and still make it out (of the group stage). It is worrying but I think they will be working to solve it.”

Tottenham return to Champions League action on October 1st when they host Bayern Munich, who comfortably beat Serbian club Crvena Zvezda 3-0 in order to move top of Group B.

However, Spurs will now turn their attention back to the Premier League as they travel to face Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City on Saturday.
