Exclusive: Hutton drools over rarely-seen Tottenham youngster set to play tonight

Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker-Peters can “become a great player” as he stands on the verge of a recall to the team tonight.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs right-back is convinced about the potential of the 22-year-old and claimed he has the mentality to make it at the top.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider Walker-Peters is in line to return to the matchday squad tonight against Olympiakos in the Champions League after Serge Aurier and Danny Rose were absent from the travelling party that headed to Athens.

Walker-Peters missed the 2-2 north London derby draw before the international with a minor hamstring injury and was also absent for last Saturday’s hammering of Crystal Palace.

He will compete with Davinson Sanchez for a place at right-back, and will be on the bench if he misses out from the start.

Hutton has liked what he has seen of the youngster, who has been part of the senior Tottenham set-up for a number of years but has still made only 22 appearances for his hometown club.

“For one so young, it’s difficult to play in the Premier League at any age, but to come through the ranks is impressive and he seems that type who has no fear,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“He’ll only learn off someone like Pochettino. If you really want to become a great player, from what I’ve seen he can be, these are the types of
boys (the Tottenham stars) you really need to be learning from.”

Walker-Peters started Spurs’ first three league matches of the season after the summer sale of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid for £20million.

This came after Spurs snubbed interest in the former England Under-21 international from Premier League clubs during the summer window, including Southampton and Palace.
