'Madness' - Exclusive: Hutton reacts to Levy trying to sell Spurs player who refused to leave

EXCLUSIVE

Alan Hutton has insisted it was “madness” for Tottenham to try and sell Danny Rose during the recently-shut summer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs full-back can’t believe Spurs have been willing to cash in on such a proven player who’s a regular starter in their team.

As revealed by Football Insider, Rose refused to leave Tottenham on deadline day after chairman Daniel Levy tried to sell him to Watford.

He has subsequently re-established himself as the first choice left-back in Mauricio Pochettino’s side and started all five of their Premier League matches this season.

“I think it’s madness to allow him to leave without a replacement,” Hutton told Football Insider. “It’s a strange one, I don’t really understand how it’s all come about. He was there when I was there, we’re going back a long time now, but why would you let such a player go?

“England experience, Champions League, everything. It doesn’t really seem to sit right for both sides – you’ve got Trippier and Rose seemed to go through the same situation.

“I don’t really understand what happened. Great player and now I think the window’s shut, he can just close that door and get on with it because he’s a really good player.”

Rose turned 29 in July and his contract at Tottenham runs until the summer of 2021.

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club are lining up a sensational £60million offer.
