'Massive coup' - Hutton shares what he's heard about ace Rangers beat Celtic to bring to Ibrox

EXCLUSIVE

Alan Hutton has hailed Joe Aribo as a “massive coup” for Rangers after they beat Celtic and other clubs to his signature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Russell Edge, the ex-Gers, Aston Villa and Tottenham defender explained why he is a big fan of the 22-year-old.

Hutton revealed he had “heard a lot of good things” from Aribo’s former club Charlton Athletic about the goalscoring midfielder.

Rangers survived a late ambush from Celtic, as well as interest from multiple clubs in England and overseas, to sign Aribo on a free transfer.

“He’s a massive coup. He’s one that excites me, really from what I’ve seen so far,” Hutton told Football Insider. “I heard a lot of good things from Charlton and I think there was a few teams interested in him so for Rangers to get him was massive, really.

“He’s really made a difference so far. I think he’ll get better, especially playing under Gerrard. He knows what he wants, it is going to be an ideal place for him to learn his trade and he’s another one that I really think can go on to better things as well.”

Aribo has immediately established himself as a regular in Steven Gerrard’s side, making 11 starts among 12 appearances for the Light Blues.

The versatile midfielder has scored four goals, three of which have come in Europa League qualifiers.
