McAvennie digs at 'criminal' Lennon move amid 'massive' Rogic turnaround at Celtic

Frank McAvennie has hailed Tom Rogic as a “wonderful” player for stealing the headlines as Celtic beat Dundee United.

The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Ange Postecoglou is seeing the benefits after giving the midfielder chances Neil Lennon wasn’t.

Rogic, 28, scored a wonder goal against Dundee United on Sunday (5 December).

He picked the ball up just inside the Dundee half and ran through three defenders before slotting the ball past Ben Siegrist.

McAvennie claims it is “criminal” how little Rogic played last season and admitted he is thrilled Celtic fans are seeing the best of the player.

“He’s just wonderful,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think he and Ange have a special connection, they are from the same neck of the woods.

“But I rate him so highly. It was criminal how little he’s played last season.

“Lenny was asking for more quality in the midfield and he had a fully fit Rogic on the bench.

“We are seeing the best of him now. He’s playing with such confidence.

“It’s nice to actually have a bit of depth in the midfield for once. I have my fingers crossed he can keep his fitness.

“That’s the only thing for me. If he stays fit, he is a massive player for us.”

Rogic only started 10 league games last season as the Hoops struggled.

He has already started nine league games this season but missed the three matches before Sunday’s clash through injury.
