Insider: Celtic can sign Carter-Vickers from Tottenham in January for £7m less than reported

Celtic will be able to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently from Tottenham in January for up to £3million.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 1 December, Record Sport reported Celtic will need to shell out £10m to convert the season-long loan of Carter-Vickers, 23, into a permanent deal.

The defender has made 17 appearances in all competitions since joining the Hoops last summer (2021).

However, he missed Sunday’s (5 December) win over Dundee United with a “personal issue”, as per Ange Postecoglou.

Wenham insists a figure of between £2.5million and £3million is far more realistic as the defender only has 18-months left on his current deal.

“I just cannot see that being the figure,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I know for a fact Tottenham would have sold him for £2.5million in the summer.

“Tottenham were also happy to sell him for that much in the past.

“The club is realistic in their valuations. He has 18 months remaining on his deal after January.

“There is no way Tottenham are asking for £10million, that’s ridiculous.

“I reckon it will be between £2.5million or £3million. That £10million figure is totally wide of the mark.”

Carter-Vickers has made five senior appearances for Tottenham.

He has also enjoyed loan spells at clubs such as Bournemouth, Luton and Stoke among several other sides.

In other news, Tottenham are preparing for the “biggest window in their history”, with 10-plus deals in the pipeline.
