Sources: MK Dons, Salford & Colchester United battle to sign Kanu from Peterborough

MK Dons, Salford and Colchester are chasing Peterborough winger Idris Kanu ahead of January, Football Insider has learned.

The 22-year-old has only made six appearances for Posh this season despite earning his first international cap for Sierra Leone last month.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Kanu is ready to leave in search of regular first-team football.

He is growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of opportunities this season.

The former West Ham youngster has started just once this term – in a 3-0 defeat against Swansea in October.

Kanu has just over 18 months left on his contract at London Road after he penned an extension in 2020.

He forged a senior career with non-league club Aldershot Town after leaving the West Ham setup in 2016.

Kanu became Aldershot’s youngest-ever league player at the age of 16 years and 308 days.

The winger then smashed another record just 35 days later when he became their youngest ever league goalscorer with a strike against Lincoln.

The Sierra Leone international joined Peterborough the following season and made 28 appearances in all competitions during the 2017-18 campaign.

Loan spells with Port Vale and Boreham Wood would follow after failing to nail down a starting berth at London Road.

Kanu made his breakthrough at Posh last season, making 17 league appearances and scoring twice as they earned promotion to the second tier.

The step-up has seen the winger displaced by Nathan Thompson and Joe Ward in the Posh eleven as manager Darren Ferguson employs a 3-5-2 system.

The transfer window opens on 1 January.
