Expert defends 'outstanding' Heung-Min Son amid fresh Tottenham criticism

Heung-Min Son is “back to his best” at Tottenham even if he is still struggling in front of goal.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Son has scored in just two of his 18 Premier League outings this season.

The South Korean’s league form has been a major concern for Tottenham this season though he has still started 19 of the club’s 22 Premier League games.

Son has scored eight goals in all competitions this season with two of them coming in Spurs’ 3-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup (28 January).

“I think the Preston game was a turning point,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I also thought he was pretty good against Manchester City. He was back to his best in terms of taking people on and winning duels, carrying the ball, forcing Man CIty back.

“That created space for our other runners and other players to come in and cause problems. Against lesser opposition he will do more damage and get those goals.

“We saw that against Preston. It’s what he does. Maybe this will be a season where he doesn’t challenge for the golden boot but is outstanding in other ways.

“I do hope he has a flurry in about a month’s time when we have some really big games but right now I’m not too bothered. The goals will come.

“But he is playing really well generally but people are still criticising.

“You just won’t hear people talking about it because his numbers aren’t great.”

In other news, sources have told this site that Tottenham are plotting a move to sign Jordan Pickford.
