Pundit issues 'phenomenal' Jorginho verdict amid 'Arsenal retirement home' jibe

The signing of Jorginho is a “phenomenal” piece of business from Arsenal.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 31 January, the Gunners confirmed the deadline day capture of the 31-year-old, who joins on an 18-month deal from Chelsea that includes the option of a further year.

Speaking on the signing, sporting director Edu said that the midfielder fits the club’s style of play and can help to continue their momentum.

Wenham admits Arsenal have secured a major upgrade to their midfield options.

“When I call Arsenal a ‘Chelsea retirement home’, I do so in jest,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Jorginho is a very good signing. The question is, is he an upgrade on Elneny who is injured for a couple of months?

“Is he better than Lokonga who looks a million miles away than the required level? The answer to both is yes.

“It’s a phenomenal upgrade so straight away you now have three top-table Premier League midfielders in Partey Xhaka and Jorginho.

“Just look at what he’s won in the last two years, Champions League, Euros, FA Cup, Club World Cup, it’s a no-brainer for Arsenal.

“To get him for £10million or £12million is a phenomenal piece of business.”

Jorginho started 15 times in the league for Chelsea this season before moving to the Emirates.

Arsenal are next in action against Everton on Saturday (4 February).
