Pundit issues 'big' Anthony Gordon claim after Everton talks twist

Anthony Gordon is signing a new Everton deal because he has realised Tottenham and Chelsea no longer want him.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The Telegraph reported on 19 December that Gordon, 21, is now close to committing his future to Goodison Park with a new contract though, to date, no deal has been announced.

His current agreement is set to expire in the summer of 2025.

Gordon has started 12 of the Toffees’ 19 Premier League games this season after establishing himself as a key player during the 2021-22 campaign.

Wenham doesn’t see him leaving the Toffees anytime soon.

“I suspect Gordon has realised the interest from Tottenham and Chelsea has gone away,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Everton will have offered him a pay rise and in his position, he may as well take it. Of course, the club are now protected if a bid does come in.

“He hasn’t exactly set the world on fire this season and Everton are struggling again. So he may as well stay there for a bit longer and try to get back to the form that caught everyone’s attention.

“Maybe next summer or even the summer after he could be back getting interest for a transfer but right now he’s not there.

“It’s a big season for him and he needs to improve quickly.”

Gordon has registered 10 goal contributions in 65 top-flight games for the Toffees.

Everton are next in action against West Ham on Saturday (21 January).
