Expert fears for Tottenham as club set to repeat 2022 mistakes - 'I am so worried'

Tottenham are repeating last season’s January transfer mistakes but will not be as lucky this time around.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham are yet to make a January signing this month despite constant calls from Antonio Conte to strengthen his side.

Spurs have now lost four of their last five home games and sit five points off fourth-placed Newcastle United.

Last January, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski arrived in the final hours of the window after the club failed to land targets such as Adama Traore, who joined Barcelona.

Wenham fears Spurs will again be looking for last-minute deals and expects any late signings won’t have the same impact as the former Juventus duo.

“It still frustrates me that we didn’t have a signing ready to go as soon as the window opened,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That would have been the safe thing to do. There are players we wanted, we knew how much they would cost, so let’s have them signed and ready for 1 January.

“That didn’t happen. The first week of January goes by, nothing. Now we have had two, nearly three, weeks and there is still nothing.

“Last season was exactly the same. We went for so many players and didn’t get them. It turned out fine because we got Bentuancur and Kulusevski who have been outstanding for us but I don’t think we get that lucky again.

“Most last-minute transfer deals end up proving to be mistakes.

I’m so worried that we will be left with some more players who just don’t add anything.”
