Tottenham expert issues 'big' Pape Sarr verdict after what he's seen in person

Pape Sarr has a long-term future at Tottenham after being given a “golden chance” by Antonio Conte.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Sarr, 20, was handed a first Premier League start in Sunday’s (15 January) North London Derby as Spurs fell to a 2-0 defeat.

He was handed a start despite Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp being fully fit and having only previously played 124 minutes for the club.

Wenham, who attended the game, has shared his assessment.

“I thought Sarr played well,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He was one of our better players which is funny because he had only really played against Portsmouth before the Arsenal game.

“But he was handed this golden chance by Conte because you would think Bissouma or Skipp would have been in there.

“You have to think Conte might prefer Sarr but then, if that’s the case, why haven’t we seen more of him? Just on Sarr though, I think there is a player there.

“He is so young and that game will have been a big experience for him, he will have learned so much. It looks like he is sticking around for the second half of the season as well so hopefully he can continue to develop.”

Sarr was immediately sent back to Metz on loan after joining Spurs in the summer of 2021 but the club did not secure him a loan for the first half of the current campaign.

The midfielder played 45 minutes off the bench for Senegal against England at the Qatar World Cup, the first chance many Tottenham fans had to watch the player.
