Expert left baffled by Tottenham transfer strategy amid Pedro Porro latest
There is no reason why Tottenham should not pay Pedro Porro’s release clause this month.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
On 6 January, Fabrizio Romano reported Sporting star Porro is top of Spurs’ wishlist this month with the player “keen on the move”.
The transfer expert updated on Monday (16 January) to say Spurs are unwilling to meet the winger’s release clause.
Wenham can’t believe Spurs aren’t stumping up the cash.
“So apparently Pedro Porro is out of reach,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That’s just what you want to hear after the worst result of the season. We have been chasing this guy, or apparently he has been our top target, for weeks now.
“We have known about this release clause and now apparently we aren’t going to pay it. What kind of strategy is that?
“There are links with Dumfries now and people are talking about how he was Conte’s wing-back at Milan. No he wasn’t, Conte had Hakimi when he won the league over there.
“So we don’t even have that link. It’s just another name. This whole thing is so frustrating because we have the money to go out and do these deals but we are refusing to.
“I just don’t get it.”
Tottenham are next in action against Man City on Thursday (19 January).
The club sits fifth in the Premier League table.
