Tottenham hit by 'double whammy' after medical insider's Richarlison update - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Richarlison has been hit by a “double whammy” as injury looks set to keep him out of the Tottenham side until early 2023.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old would have been in contention for a rare start after improving his reputation at the World Cup with Brazil.

According to The Athletic (13 December) Richarlison has undergone scans on a hamstring issue and is set for a spell on the sidelines as Tottenham embark on a fixture-packed festive period.

Football Insider medical expert Ben Dinnery has claimed (14 December) the Brazil international may not be fit to feature for Tottenham until 2023 – with a “four-week” layoff possible.

Richarlison led the line for Brazil in four of their five World Cup games, scoring three goals before they were knocked out by Croatia on penalties at the quarter-final stage.

The summer signing has started just five Premier League games for Spurs – a clear sign he sits behind Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski in the pecking order.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s a bit of a double whammy for Richarlison.

“He’s done his reputation the world of good. Him and Neymar were the main men for Brazil, and some of the goals he scored were sensational.

“They went out in a very disappointing way.

“He’s going to have to dust himself down and find a happy place again, much like a lot of clubs in the Premier League.

“He would have been in contention to start if he had been fit, but I’m sure he will get plenty of chances to show what he can do heading into the new year.”
