Adrien Rabiot tipped to join Newcastle United for 'cut-price fee' after confession - pundit

Kevin Campbell has backed Newcastle United to sign Adrien Rabiot for a “cut-price fee” after he admitted a move to the Premier League would be “attractive”.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Magpies should make the most of their top-four berth by signing top talent in the January window.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (6 December), Newcastle are ready to “go on the offensive” to sign the midfielder, 27, in January.

The report claims Juventus would accept an offer as low as £12.8million for Rabiot – who is out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Rabiot, who has admitted a move to the Premier League is an “attractive” prospect, can pen a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs on 1 January.

The former Paris Saint-Germain ace has excelled at the World Cup for France, providing one goal and one assist in five starts for Didier Deschamps’ side.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Newcastle have got to look to strengthen now.

“Look at where they are in the league – they’re in the top four now.

“They’ll want to freshen the squad, and make sure they can compete with the best sides even if there are injury problems.

“Rabiot is a versatile player. He can play in quite a few roles.

“I think this is a deal well worth pursuing for Newcastle, especially as his contract runs down. It’s going to be a cut-price fee if he does leave in January.”
